Life lately

I've recently started wearing more eye-shadows, but pink lips are my signature (also  demonstrated in second picture), wine and Sex and the city marathon - perfect Sunday evening?!, coffee and new monthlies - great way to relax, possibly one of my favourite outfits ever, buying flowers for my friend - white roses are so chic!, make up I've been wearing recently, new found obsession - coconut frappe - yummy!

 

I've said it many times before (on various social media) but I'm addicted to Instagram. I feel I've been close to obsessed lately - it's the last thing I check before going to sleep and first thing after I wake up (sad I know..). So here's few things I've been snapping lately.

Back in UK

Picnic on a sunny Sunday in the V&A museum, flight essentials, H&M mini shopping spree (prints galore), enjoying some Snog in London, beautiful V&A garden, recent outfit, impromptu trip in a friend's convertible, loving leopard and stripes, first thing I bought when back - Vogue and some nail polishes.

 

I've been back to UK for nearly a week now and what a week it's been! First of all I'm glad there has been some amazing weather (I was worried..) and I took full advantage of it. From impromptu trips, to picnics and a lot of shopping, catching up with friends and more shopping I can tell you it's good to be back :)

1. My week was off to a good start with Matches package arriving first thing on Monday morning :)

2. In the box was my new DvF iPad cover. I'd been looking for one for ages and this was a bargain too good to resist.

3. Selfie in DKNY store on Bond street where I picked up another bargain. A bag that will be introduced on the blog soon.

4. Bargain number 3: winter coat from ASOS in dusky pink. According to Vogue that colour is going to be big next season! (For me pink is always in style..)

5. After a very long and busy week, it was nice to finally catch up on magazine reading, manicures and other important/fun stuff at the weekend.

1. I finally went to see the Valentino exhibition at Somerset house (it's amazing and if you've not seen it go - it finishes March 3). I took a sneaky picture of one of the dresses. How amazing is it?! 

2. Christian Louboutin shop window on Mount street in London. Shoes heaven.

3. One day last week I came home to a lovely surprise. New dressing table :) There's many more things on it now and I love it!

4. New bottle of Valentina by Valentino. My 3rd bottle since September. It's my fave along with Chanel Chance.

5. My ideal evening these days is spent catching up on fashion monthlies. Cara Delevigne looks super cool on the cover of Vogue.

It's an instagram life #23

Like many other people, I'm feeling the mood for all thing burgundy - one of the biggest trends for autumn. My Chanel nail polish - Rouge Noir - fits the mood perfectly.
I'm the definite handbag girl and find the below quote from Coach Bond street store very true.
London is starting to look very Christmasy, with Oxford street light switched on last week.

I love gold nearly as pink. What an amazing colour. Can't wait for the party season and wear my Jimmy Choo wedges loads. My Michael Kors watch is an everyday essential and so is YSL bracelet.
Another quote, this time from Audrey Hepburn, doesn't need any comment. It says it all..

Vintage Sunday - the 80s take II.

Last week I was reminiscing about the 80s. It was an era that gave us Flash dance, Rubic's cube and neon - that has made a great comeback. We watched Dynasty and listened to Madonna and New Kids on The Block (at least I did..).
But today let's concentrate more on the fashion. The only cover I could find from 1981 - the year I was born - was August issue of Vogue with Princess Diana who just got married to Charles. Wasn't she pretty?!
Towards the end of the 80s the supermodels have started to appear. As you can see Christy Turlington and Cindy Crawford were among the first. Claudia, Stephanie and more followed. They all looked very fresh faced no? What is your favourite memory/thing that came out of the 80s?

Vintage Sunday - the 80s

Today's Vintage Sunday post was inspired by my recent obsession with the 80s. I was born in 1981 so lived through most of it, although I obviously don't remember it all. But there was something about that era no? I mostly love the music and have been listening to it a lot lately - hence this post. From Madonna, Michael Jackson through Eurythmics, U2 to Chicago, Reo Speedwagon and many more, didn't the 80s just sound great. I have to admit the clothes weren't that amazing but it's fun to look at it and reminisce.
I found this Vogue cover from the 80s with Linda Evangelista on the it. As mentioned many times before, she was one of my favourite 'supers'. Mainly for her constant hair changes. I love a bit of a change.
I love the colour combo and simplicity of the cover.
What was your 80s favourite model/singer/movie/song..? I think I'll get back to this again because as Calvin Harris says.. "I've got love for you if you were born in the 80s.." ;)

The magic dress and Online Fashion Week

Happy news fellow shopaholic fashionistas! Vogue magazine is organising Online Fashion Week from Monday to Friday Dec 5-9th and it's not to be missed! Countless of retailers will be offering exclusive collections, discounts, there will even be competitions! Expect online debates with industry experts and much more. Read the whole schedule here, although there are still more deals and surprises to be announced. As exciting as it sounds, the best news about it is, it's all in the name of a charity and hopefully we can all raise loads of money together.
Most deals still remain mystery, but I can tell you now, you'll get a chance to win a "Magic dress" by Young British Designers. More details how will follow but I'm already intrigued. They've been asking on Twitter what would your magic dress do and my first reaction was, it would be designed by Z-mode. YBD are a great on-line platform for emerging designers, supporting new talent. I have written about quite a few of their designers already including Imogen Belfield, Lucy Hutchings and most recently Lako Bukia and will definitely write about more. If you're not familiar with the site make sure you check it out. As if you need extra reason, but they are offering 25% off dresses until Dec 4th! Hurry as this is a great offer.
And now back to Z-Mode. I met Victoria Rangayah who launched the label for SS 11 at London Fashion Week and she is so sweet. Most importantly she is really hard-working and talented, which recently paid off as she's been shortlisted for Fashion Scout. I honestly wish her best of luck with that. I will tell you more about her soon and will be bringing interview too. For now to give you an idea how pretty her dresses are I've included couple of pictures. The one shouldered piece I saw Zoe Hardman wearing at a fashion show and it looked stunning and the dark blue Cloud9 dress is a star on it's on. It's been featured in OK magazine and have been very popular with generally. I'm not surprised. You can buy both at YBD here.

Another good example of great black and white photography and the power of the supers. Can Christy Turlington look any better. Of course the amazing styling of Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele (whose work I feature a lot in Vintage Sundays) and photograpy by Steven Meisel makes all a match made in heaven. Did you know French Carlyne's editorial work first appeared in Anna Wintour's first issue of Vogue? Lots of great styling work followed including her latest cover for Vogue Italia featuring Rachel Zimmerman. But today let her show us how powerful accessories can really be.

Vintage Sunday by Galliano

Dior still haven't found a replacement for John Galliano and to be honest I'm not surprised. They've got hard shoes to fill. I'm still hoping there will be some kind of miracle and they'll decide to take Galliano back. Maybe that's why they're still waiting..
Either way he remains one of my favourite designers and I decided to dedicate him another Vintage Sunday. Also for the fact that I've always loved this picture of Czech model Hana Soukupova in Vogue spring 2006. I'm having bit of a Czech day on my blog today (more coming later). Doesn't she look so pretty dressed in Galliano? Romantic is what he does best and I love how it's finished with soft make-up and disheveled hair. Perfection.

Adele in Vogue

Well what can I say. Only that I agree with loads of other people that this month's Vogue UK's cover is great. I have been a bit dissapointed with Vogue UK for some time now, as their covers haven't been anything special. I kind of liked the one with Kate Moss on a cover of their August issue but Kate is a bit of a safe option. On the other side Elle have been great this year. They've been doing really great and I've kept all of the issues. Few of the favourites include Rosie Huntington-Whiteley on cover, Cameron Diaz, Lily Allen Cooper and the latest with Agy Dean just fits into the continuous success. Love it despite not being a massive fan of Agyness. It goes to show how good the team Elle really is.
But back to Vogue and some praise for them. It's first Vogue cover for the talented singer and does not dissapoint in any way. Adele has been criticised in the past for her weight and not looking the typical way as most singers do these days (stick think so they can show of everything in teeny weeny bikini to sell records). I am glad the media are starting to embrace diversity in beauty, an issue I have addressed in the past. I love the make-up they used and all the colours, it just looks a bit crowded. A bit less of text would look better and let the real star shine. Other than that well done and let's hope it is a start of change in imaginery showing all different kinds of people and beauty.

Vintage Sunday - Dior at Vogue

The name on everyone's lips for quite a while now has been Dior. With no official announcement made yet about the next creative director, there have been countless of speculations. The latest, Marc Jacobs, seems close to the truth, especially after the news that Louis Vuitton is planning a retrospective exhibition about Jacobs' era at the French house. Seems like a nice leaving present.. If the rumours are true remains to be seen.
For me I loved Galliano at Dior and thought he was perfect for the label and as much as I like Jacobs, can't imagine him there. But what do I know? It may work out amazingly.
For a Vintage Sunday, I am bringing the original Christian Dior creation in Vogue 1952. Isn't it beautiful? Enjoy.

Vintage Sunday - Vanessa Paradis

Wow this week has gone quick and it's time for another Vintage Sunday post. This week has been exciting in the sense, that all the July issues of my favourite magazines have come out. I love reading new mags and always can't wait to see the covers. The one that has dissapointed me, is by Vogue. Vanessa Paradis is their cover star and is such a beauty, but this cover is just wrong. I don't really want to be saying bad things I'd rather concentrate on the positives. So here I'm bringing you a cover of Slovak magazine Eva with Vanessa Paradis, that I think is great. They let her beauty shine through, altough I'd prefer if they put less writing on. It's unnecessary. Now tell me. Which one do you prefer?

Vintage Sunday - by Greg Kadel

Those who follow me on twitter may have seen a picure I posted of YSL cigarette packet. It looks very stylish and my question was: Would you take up smoking for these? I talked about this subject before, after Kate Moss strutted the Louis Vuitton runway puffing on a fag. I'm very anti-smoking, but have to admit, in fashion images it adds certain something. Sex appeal? Am I hypocritical for thinking this? As much as I love these photos and YSL cigarettes I'm not planning to start smoking and in no way I am promoting it.
But look at the photo below by Greg Kadel, American photographer who's done countless shoots for various editions of Vogue, Número, Harper's Bazaar and fashion campaigns, and tell me the cigarette doesn't "belong" there. What do you think?

Vintage Sunday - by Paolo Roversi

I'm super excited about today's Vintage Sunday post. This editorial styled by Lucinda Chambers for Vogue UK (May 1996) was photographed by Paolo Roversi, who is one of my favourite photographers. I love how the couture dress by Yves Saint Lauren is dressed down with model being barefoot, plus the hair accessories give it a tribal vibe. The dark background is genius, as it makes everything else really stand out. What do you think?

Introducing: Imogen Belfield - the interview!

You may remember Imogen Belfield from my jewelled Wednesday post. This young lady caused quite a stir at London Fashion Week with her amazing collection and was named by Vogue.com as best new talent. I fell in love with her jewellery instantly. She creates stand out, statement pieces, that everyone should include in their accessories collection. I was lucky to meet this talented girl and she agreed to answer few questions for me. I'm happy to be bringing you this exclusive interview today. Make sure you remember her name as I expect we will be hearing a lot about her!

First of all tell me what you've been up to since Fashion Weeks? How was Paris?
Fashion week was amazing, and to show at London and Paris for the first was an incredible experience. We had an amazing write up by Vogue.com, naming our jewellery collection as best new talents from fashion week. Since Paris 2 weeks ago it has been non-stop.

I was showing with Vauxhall Fashion Scout in both Paris and London, and it was incredible to be sitting alongside such talented and some very established designers.


What are your plans/goals for the future of your brand?
I'm already planning my next collection, with ideas whizzing around my head...so watch this space!!!
Future goals and plans for my business are just to keep growing, and expanding. I am still very new to the industry so I am learning all the time, and am lucky to work with some incredible people who have already offered amazing advice and help.


What inspires you/keeps you motivated?
What inspires me,
Countryside, space, sunshine, architecture and landscape...
Everyday something new and exciting happens, that's enough to be motivated, I am very excited about how everything is evolving with the business.


What are your favourite trends for summer?
Gold tones, layered and stacked jewellery, geometric patterns and form would be my key trends for spring summer.

Have you got any role model and who?
There are a lot of designers I admire, Shaun Leane's collections never cease to amaze.


And last what's next for Imogen Belfield?
Next up is to develop my collection, you may be seeing some larger sculptural pieces in the next seasons collections! And of course lots of raw stones and gems....

Jewelled Wednesday - by Lucy Hutchings

This talented young woman originally comes from Suffolk, which rural area inspires her jewellery. She got a first class honours degree at University of Brigton in wood, metal, ceramics and plastics. She got her experience working for Erickson Beamon and eventually started her own label sold at Young British Designers. Lucy's bold pieces have been featured in Vogue, Elle and Harper's Bazaar.
